“This week I’ve been reading a lot and doing little work. That’s the way things ought to be. That’s surely the road to success.”
During a career spanning six decades, Lawrence Halprin (1916-2009) became one of the most prolific and outspoken landscape architects of his generation. He took on challenging new project types, developing a multidisciplinary practice while experimenting with adaptive reuse and ecological designs for new shopping malls, freeways, and urban parks. In his lifelong effort to improve the American landscape, Halprin celebrated the creative process as a form of social activism. A native New Yorker, Halprin earned degrees from Cornell and the University of Wisconsin before completing his design degree at Harvard. In 1945 he joined Thomas Church's firm, where he collaborated on the iconic Donnell Garden. He opened his own San Francisco office in 1949, where he initially focused on residential commissions in the Bay Area, completing close to three hundred in ten years' time. By the 1960s the firm had gained recognition for significant urban renewal projects such as Ghirardelli Square in San Francisco (1962-68), Nicollet Mall in Minneapolis (1962-67), and Freeway Park in Seattle (1970-74). Halprin used his conception of a Sierra stream as the catalyst for the Portland Open Space Sequence, a series of parks featuring great fountains that linked housing and civic space in the inner city. A charismatic speaker and passionate artist, Halprin designed landscapes that reflected the democratic and participatory ethic characteristic of his era. He communicated his ideas as well in lectures, books, exhibits, and performances. Along with his contemporary Ian McHarg, Halprin was his generation's great proselytizer for landscape architecture as environmental design. Throughout his long career, he strived to develop poetic and symbolic landscapes that, in his words, could "articulate a culture's most spiritual values."

I use this app. to hear the Bible, usually while exercising on a ski machine (with a separate Bluetooth speaker). The audio Bible I have is in German, so I get some language practice, too. The app. keeps the files in their proper order, which iTunes did not. I see the app. has a procedure built in for uploading files to the iPhone. I had already used 3rd party software to do that for a previous iPhone, and these files came over to this phone when I got a new phone. This app. clips the chapter number just a little when starting a new chapter, but only when using the Bluetooth speaker, so that may be a problem wit the speaker software. My previous audio book player did not do that. Other than that, it does what I want.Stahlbrenner
Loved the free version so much, I upgraded to the Pro version. Love how it can play numerous formats. Easy to use, and navigate. Hope in a future update they include the ability to autoplay the next book after the previous one ended. Not all files are always a book, so in those cases this would be perfect, as some files are per chapter from some online sources.Hart316
This app has a ton of features for listening to your audiobooks. The shake to extend the sleep timer is very convenient and a feature I miss when I switch back to the Audible app for my library there. Also, the equalizer has been a really nice addition along with the audio preset built in. I can keep my books out on my iCloud Drive and download them when I’m ready to listen. Great app!kwikknick
The app allows a lot of freedom as far as organization and playback speed. Sleep timer is adjustable and combining books into series folders is simple. Equalizer helps to adjust pitch when playing at high speeds and helps reduces feedback with poor quality recordings. App never crashes and I don’t have any complaints.hhathorn
